Bedroom redo

I have been thinking about giving our bedroom a redo. Eventually when we are living in a non-rental, I'd love to paint our room a violet-gray. But for now I have been having fun checking out etsy for cool bedspreads!

This chenille bedspread is beautiful!! It is from etsy seller, catnapcottage

And I love this colorful quilt from etsy seller, uniquelynancy!

Yesterday, Mike and I went to run some errands, which included going to an antique store! I bought a mirrored tray very similar to this one that etsy seller rosecottageemporium is selling. I am going to use mine to corral my makeup and perfume!

I am kind of torn between wanting a really calm, simple room and a crazy colorful room. I think colorful will win.

Updated House Tour

On Sunday, Mike and I tried to reorganize our living room. The room is long and narrow, so it's been difficult to maximize it's potential. We are definitely not feng shui at all. Anyway, we tried the couch is a bunch of different positions and ended up putting it where we just had it. The new additions to our room are a very cool floor lamp, a very colorful rug, and more of my art work is up. Here are some pictures...

A few weeks ago my mom and brother came to visit and they brought that very cool "creamsicle-colored" table with them. My mom's boyfriend, Chuck, designs furniture and he very kindly gave us that table! We have really been enjoying it and it fits in really nicely with the rest of our colorful, slightly bizarre stuff!

House Tour: Mom's house

Here is a shelf on one of my mom's bookcases. Those weird ceramic things are things I made in college that my mom is begrudgingly displaying in her house. Just kidding. (Mom, you can throw them away or put them in the attic if you want)

This is my favorite lamp in my mom's house! I am not really a dolphin fan except for the football team, go dophins eeek eeek ekk!, but I think this is the cutest thing!

House Tour- part 12

Office:

This is the top shelf of our office bookcase. All the other shelves are filled with Mike's books. This shelf contains a few tweeks, a framed print from my friend Caitlin, and my old books that I am saving for collages and art things.

In college I started collecting pink elephant things. I have 4 little trays, one glass, 5 shot glasses. I use the trays a lot.

House tour- part 8

Bedroom:

My mom wood-burned this tray for me when she was in her woodburning phase. I pile all my makeup stuff in it. The perfume is Princess by Vera Wang. Mike's mom gave it to me for Christmas 2 years ago. It smells great, and bonus- the top comes off and its a little golden ring with pink diamonds that you can wear!

House tour- part 7

This is the second of our three plants. The tag says it is a bonsai, but that doesn't seem to be true. It is a cute little plant, and the rocks are all glued together! Weird.

House tour- part 6

Living Room:

This is my small collection of white thrift store vases, I think they are so cute. I made this ceramic robot in college. The heart frame is from 10,000 villages and was a gift from Mike's sister. The picture of us is from our first trip to another state! We went to Baltimore to check out the aquarium and Visionary Arts museum during my freshman year of college.

House Tour- part 5

Living room:

In honor of the Easter season, I am showcasing my bunny candleholder that was an Easter gift a few years ago from my mom. I keep it out all year round because bunnies are good for every season!
We have 3 plants in our house, this weeping fig is one of them. Mike takes care of them and we have had them since we moved in, in July! Also that little weird silver thing is a sculpture I made out of staples.

House Tour- Brother edition

My brother sent me this:

Ben- "I have a squishy thing on my doorknob too! it is also a spikey thing but all my spikes are droopy. I didn't know what to do with it a long time ago so i put it on my doorknob and it has been there ever since."

House Tour: part 4

Bedroom:
This is the door to our bedroom. This weird thing on the doorknob is a Christmas gift I received a few years ago, I cannot bear to throw it away, but I don't know what to do with it! It is squishy and reversible, and the spiky side is much more fun than the smooth side.
ps- it is not supposed to be a doorknob decoration, I think it is supposed to be a ball to throw around and squish.

House tour : Kitchen

I made this delicious smoothie! I get into food ruts, where I get obsessed with a type of food and want to eat only that for a few weeks, and then I move on to something else. Lately I have been making and eating a lot of smoothies. This smoothie contains: fat free vanilla yogurt, sunny d, frozen peaches, frozen pineapple, one kiwi, frozen raspberries and ground flax seeds.

Other foods that I have been obsessed with:
Burritos and Pizza- fun to make because whatever we have in the fridge goes on them. Like a pizza with black beans and chicken nuggets, yum.
Edamame and Tofu- I was obsessed with making stir-frys for a week or so.

House Tour- part 3

Living room:

I made this orange and turquoise ceramic piece in college, it is one of the 20 or so pieces that I made that are called, "tweeks".  I think I only sold 5 of them, so I still have a bunch around my house and my mom's house! The artwork behind it is from El Salvador, I think someone gave it to my mom and then she gave it to me.
Mike made the shelf- it houses a lot of weird artwork!

House tour- part 2

Bedroom:
I made this ceramic piece in college. It's part of a psuedo-tea set. I made a bunch of little weird creamers and bowls that are wearing ties or pearls or bracelets or have puffed sleeves. I have used them to serve salad dressing, but mainly I keep things in them. Like makeup brushes and pencils. I usually keep tweezers in the pocket.

New Shelf!

Mike surprised me and built this shelf on Friday. Yesterday we bought purple spray paint, and today Mike finished the sanding and painted it. It is a little splotchy but I like it. I started collecting white vases from Goodwill this year- one of them cost 40 cents! The other 2 were a dollar I think. The magazine racks were a Christmas gift and I will be getting InStyle and Domino magazines this year (Christmas gifts also!).

Maybe tomorrow I can take some other pictures. I framed my new Eleanor print and Mike hung it up over our glass top buffet-type table.

Sunday

This has been a very lazy weekend. Mike and I bought season 3 of The Office, so we have pretty much been watching tv all weekend. Although yesterday we also looked around downtown at some vintage/antique stores and I dyed my hair. The dyed hair may have been a mistake. I wanted darker hair, but black is toooooo dark. Anyway, here I am working on another baby hat/bowl..

Last weekend I was getting into embroidery, I made this tampon holder...

I think that it is very funny. Mike was confused, he asked why would anyone want to have a picture of a tampon on something that holds tampons, but I think that is humor! I am weird.
In other news.. I finally got an unbroken Swedish Horse lamp from Urban Outfitters! After receiving 3 broken lamps in the mail, I finally got a good one! I went to return it at the store downtown and they had one at the store! So I bought it but it was certainly an experience and I will NEVER order anything from Urban Outfitters again, they do not refund shipping! What a rip. Anyway, I love the lamp. Here it is..
